The Rams and New OC Josh McDaniels – the Next Day

Yesterday was a whirlwind day with the Rams and the national rumor mill and new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.  There are a few important points with the Rams and this hire:

- The Rams got their first choice and that’s a great sign for the improvement of the franchise.

- The Rams are willing to open up the offense to McDaniels and run a more aggressive down the field scheme.

- The combination of McDaniels, Sam Bradford and Steven Jackson must make the Rams a more appealing destination for offensive free agents including wide receivers.

McDaniels and Spagnuolo may seem like oil and water, but both take the same aggressive approach to football on either side of the ball.  They are the offensive ying to the defensive yang.  I believe they can work together as long as one doesn’t try to cross too much into the other’s territory.

We have been gaga for an Offensive Coordinator before *cough* Al Saunders *cough* and that did not turn out very well at all.  However, we were lauding that hire ignoring the Rams rotten structure and core.  Now, the Rams have rebuilt their front office and power structure giving them the ability to make a big-name hire at offensive coordinator.

McDaniels offense has shown the ability to get a lot out of the skills of the wide receivers he has, however, I would imagine McDaniels will lobby for another offensive weapon.  And as we mentioned above, McDaniels will be a draw to some offensive weapons who want to play in his high octane offense.

The Rams got their man and that in itself is good to say.
